Ways to Use Retin-A Cream

Acne Free in 3 Days
Read How

If we look around for treatment of acne, we come across numerous preparations that are meant for treating acne. In the past, formulation with sulphur, lactic acid, resorcinol, salicylic acid was employed, but mainly as peeling agents. The newer generation agents containing varying percentages of retinoic acid are found better for treating acne. This has led earlier formulations redundant. So what levels of retin is good for acne scars? Positive effects of Retin are never under any questions, but the levels to be used are constantly debated.

Your physician might prescribe you topical application of preparations, which contain retinoic acid (tretinoin). These are available to you in your drug store, in either cream or lotion form. The most important additive Retinoic acid is included as various levels, meant for acnes of different hues and types. For occurrences of Comedonal (black acne), creams containing 0.05% of Retin-A is usually prescribed, as it is the most potent comedolytic agent. It means that, it has the potential to soften the black heads (keratins) too.

However, such a high level of Retin-A for treating acne should be used with caution, because it's potential to cause irritation, erythema and exfoliation. Never forget to apply your acne cream, when your skin is dry. Repeated exposure to the sun light exposure is also known to cause nagging irritation on your skin surface. In such events, you should consider two things:

* 1. Reducing the percentage of Retin-A to 0.025%, for better results.
* 2. Consider applying this during night on a dry surface without rubbing.

Probably you will start with a milder percentage (0.025%) of Retin-A to prevent flaring up of acne in the first weeks. Retin-A is not anti-bacterial in action as it is only comedolytic meaning it softens keratins. You may also consider creams or ointments with benzoyl peroxide, with low percentages of Retin-A, applied on alternate days in morning-evening schedule to start with and gradually increasing to 0.05 percentage in the later stages.

What ever the levels of retin you apply, you need to consider one important thing in treating your acne. Never forget to check with your physician, about the ways and methods of application. Otherwise, you may head for virulent forms of acne in future.
