With increasing demand for more innovative skin care products, several modern products are flooding our market every day. Facial cleansers, which are available today, are quite unique in formulations and results; tremendous research and development, that is associated with these cleansers, assures us of a guaranteed result. However, most of the skin cleansers contain, those ingredients, which do not need water to wash and remove the excess cream from your face. A waterless facial cleanser, like all facial cleansers will have moisturizing, soothing qualities, apart from cleansing. You will need to use a waterless facial cleanser, when you can not use water or when it is not available at all.
The waterless facial cleanser is an aqueous based alcoholic preparation. A diluted IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) or ethanol (denatured spirit) is used as a base (60% diluted). The alcohol is anti septic in nature and removes microbial organisms like bacteria and fungus.
The base mixture is mixed with a tinge of lactic acid, sodium carbonate and salicylic acid, to remove excess organic matter too. A waterless facial cleanser does not contain too much foaming agent, just to prevent excess usage of water to remove it from your face.
To use a waterless facial cleanser, just pour 3-5 ml on your palm, to gently rub it on the face, avoiding the sensitive areas like eye and nose. The alcohol present in the cleanser evaporates on your face, thus removing the foam also. Facial cleanser often uses skin emollients, just to prevent skin damage. Enough care is also taken to ensure that the foaming agent does not interfere with the activity of antiseptic property.
But, using a waterless facial cleanser may be detrimental to your sensitive skin, as the alcohol might alter the base pH of your skin surface, from acidic to alkaline. A long term usage of this product is thus undesirable and harmful. You may stop using this product, if you are highly allergic to alcohol or similar ingredients.
Waterless facial cleansers come in various concentrations and with different formulae. This product is convenient to use, when you do not have access to enough water or if you are short of time. Some products also have paraffin wax, in their formulations. However, enough reviews are not yet available to ascertain the viability of this product.
